The history of Fort Mill dates back to the 1700's. Initially, Catawba Indians made their home for many years in present-day Fort Mill. Settlers from Scotland and Ireland began settling that area in the 1750's and 1760's. The town was fully established in 1873. It name comes from being located between a British fort and a local Mill. The last full meeting of the the Confederate Cabinet was held here in 1865 at the historic White Homestead.
